I attended the USGTF certification course at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Findlay, Illinois in 1995. My instructors were Bob Wyatt, Bruce Harrison, and Mike Levine. I had been teaching for a while, and I wanted to get certified, and I had heard about the USGTF certification course. I was an assistant and previously in golf course management at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Course. That certification course was a big thrill in my life.

In June and July, I run the Kewanee Junior Camp in Kewanee, Illinois, at Baker Park. The first camp is followed up by a Pepsi Junior Golf Tournament. We work on the basics of the set up, swing, and etiquette. We go out on the course, and we stress fun to kids and have a great time.

Besides the junior clinics, I teach private lessons at two other facilities. I also teach a credit golf class at the junior college. I do Spring, Summer I and Summer II. Summer I is in the month of June, and Summer II is the month of July. The class meets Monday through Thursday and the kids get a college credit. They have fun and get out on the course. It’s not like a private lesson, but they get some pointers and go through some skills tests. We also have a golf history video and go through scoring with them.

I feel teaching is my niche and passion, and feel I’m very effective at what I do. I enjoyed teaching for America’s Favorite Golf Schools in Galena, Illinois, with Steve Driscoll, after I got certified. I don’t want to set limits on myself, but coaching a college golf team is something I would like to do in the future. I also want to get more involved with the USGTF in any way that I can.
