Initially
scheduled in Queensland, Australia, the 9th biennial World Golf
Teachers Cup has been moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
World famous, Palmetto Dunes and Hilton Head Marriot Resort & Spa
will be hosting the event.
After coordinating past World Golf Teachers Cup events and speaking
with many participants over the years, it was easy for Robert
Kleabir, tournament coordinator, to see that members were requesting
venues with championship golf courses, onsite hotels, and afterplay
activities at the most popular locations. It was then that Robert
concluded that Hilton Head Island would be the perfect destination
to host the next World Golf Teachers Cup.
The
Hilton Head Marriott and Palmetto Dunes are centrally located and
easily accessible from anywhere on the island. With the motto, “Why
go anywhere else,” the facility has plenty to offer – luxurious
accommodations, championship golf, three miles of unspoiled beach,
an 11-mile lagoon system to kayak through, world-renowned tennis,
deep-sea fishing and dolphin watching from shelter cove.
The World Golf Teachers Cup will be played on the same golf courses
that golf legends Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson honed their skills
when both were in college. The courses are designed by Arthur Hills
and George Fazio. Golf for Women Magazine honored Palmetto Dunes
Resort by placing it in the Top 25 best family golf resorts in the
nation. It was also named in Golf Magazine as one of the top 75 Golf
Resorts in the country.

The event will take place Sunday-Thursday,
November 1-5, 2009. It is a four-day event that will feature the
annual United States Golf Teachers Cup and the biennial World Golf
Teachers Cup. Individual competition in both events will be held in
four divisions, open, senior (50+), super senior (60+) & Ladies. As
a special consideration, prize money will be awarded to men over 70
and women over 50. Teams in the World Golf Teachers Cup will consist
of a minimum of 5 and maximum of 6 players in a play 6 count 5
format. Those who do not qualify for the team event will still be
competing for individual honors.

This is anticipated to be the largest tournament
in World Cup history. World Golf Teachers Federation individual
members and teams from all golfing nations will be present to
represent their countries.
