Learn to teach golf... the profession of a lifetime®

The Nation's Largest Organization of Certified Golf Teaching Professionals.

The Profession of a Lifetime®

Thank you for your interest in becoming a golf teaching professional.

The USGTF is the largest organization of golf teaching professionals in the nation. The aim of the USGTF is to train and certify well-qualified instructors to serve the American golfing public. As the industry grows at record pace there continues to be a need for qualified, personable golf teaching professionals.

Attaining your certification has never been more convenient. Since we were established in 1989, the United States Golf Teachers Federation has held one-week certification courses to attain full certification. Now, we have recently included two new levels of USGTF certification making it more convenient for you to progress in the industry comfortably at your own pace. You may now elect to attend two, four or six days of certification at courses held throughout the United States.

“Teaching golf, the “Profession of a Lifetime” offers you many opportunities in the fast growing golf industry. Our members currently hold positions as head professionals at both private and public country clubs, golf schools, driving ranges, indoor facilities, as high school and college coaches, and as self-employed teaching professionals.

Every area of the game is comprehensively covered, so you will feel comfortable in both the written and teaching aspects of attaining your certification. In addition, you will enjoy the relaxed and caring learning environment, with individual attention from our experienced examining staff. Video is also utilized as a learning aid.

To attain your full certification, there are three areas that are mandatory to pass during the course of the week:

Playing Ability Test: This takes place on the last two days of certification and the requirements are as follows: (Two rounds of 83 or less on a par 72 championship course) combined score 166 or less; Women (Two rounds of 85 or less) combined score 170; Senior Division Men- age 50-59 168; age 60-69 172; age 70+ 176; Senior Division Women- age 50-59 172; age 60+ 176.

Written Rules Test: (USGA Rule Book issued to you and permitted during test along with the easier to understand version, (“Rules in Brief”.)

Verbal Teaching Test: This test is based on detection and correction of swing errors. This will all be taught to you during the course of the week.

Certification courses are also held in Europe, Canada, Asia, South America, South Africa and Australia. Together these nations make up the World Golf Teachers Federation. When you complete the course successfully, you become a certified member of the United States and World Golf Teachers Federations and receive a membership card and certificate of certification. Plus you are eligible to take advantage of the many benefits that are available exclusively to all members of both entities.

We look forward to seeing you at a future certification course. Please do not hesitate to call us with any further questions.

Sincerely,
