EQUIPMENT REVIEW – MIZUNO MP-53 IRONS

Mizuno, a longtime USGTF industry partner, has a reputation of making clubs for serious golfers, and the MP-53 iron is no exception.  What makes this club unique in the MP line is the forgiveness associated with it.  According to the Mizuno website, “What sets this MP iron apart is an innovative CNC milled Pocket Cavity which removes 14 grams of weight. This weight is strategically redistributed around the cavity to achieve the largest sweet area ever in an MP iron.”   I recently tested out this iron, and can say that Mizuno definitely has a winner here.  At address, the clubhead is slightly larger than what most people would expect out of a so-called traditional muscleback iron, but I emphasize the word slightly.  It’s just enough to inspire greater confidence and has a very clean look.  You would never know this was an iron that had cavity back-type features.  The feeling of impact is what you would expect from Mizuno – solid.  It was also very easy to work the ball both ways and high and low.   Our industry partner Mizuno has hit another home run with this offering.  For more information on Mizuno products, visit www.MizunoGolf.com.   Review written by Mark Harman, USGTF National Course Director
