Description

Performs technical and responsible administrative work overseeing the maintenance of the municipal
golf course. Responsible for all aspects of directing and supervising of a municipal golf course
maintenance program. This will require planning and implementing various ongoing programs for care
and maintenance of entire golf course properties. Must be readily accessible at odd hours, on
weekends, and during emergencies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Daily inspection of golf course areas to determine general and specific maintenance
operations.
2. Directs personnel in maintenance of equipment.
3. Directs others in proper fertilization and insecticide and herbicide spraying as required.
4. Provides technical assistance to all maintenance and golf course staff.,
5. Must be aware of occupational hazards and the safety precautions regarding manual labor
and equipment operation.
6. Must be able to competitively purchase services’ and commodities necessary for complete
golf course operation; maintain inventory control of assigned equipment and materials,
prepare bid specifications.
7. Prepares an annual budget and recommends long-range programs for golf course capital
improvements for both maintenance and beautification projects.
8. Administrative duties include the preparation of memoranda, correspondence, daily reports
and the training of employees.
9. Establishes proper irrigation schedule for the golf course.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervise 1-6 full-time employees and approximately 12 part-time employees including, but
not limited to, greens keepers.
2. Establish daily and weekly maintenance schedules.
3. Makes determination and recommendations regarding personnel.
4. Evaluates the work performance of employees and contractors.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
– Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, and policies used in municipal golf course
maintenance.
– Knowledge of the principals, methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance
and repair of a golf course.
– Ability to plan and supervise the work of maintenance personnel.
– Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City Officials,
employees, course guests, and the general public.
– Ability to prepare and maintain records and to communicate effectively both orally and in
writing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited
college with major course work in turf management, horticulture, and/or golf course management
and extensive experience supervising the maintenance of a golf course. Must attend continuing
education and training courses relating to golf course maintenance management. Must obtain
and keep current required licenses and/or permits.
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Florida Drivers License.
Possession of a valid Florida Pesticide applicator ‘s license.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
– Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
– Moderate (up to 30 pounds) lifting and carrying
– Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid)
– Ability to communicate orally
– See and read letters, numbers, words, characters or symbols

– Equipment Operation
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
– Works outside in various weather conditions, on uneven surfaces and with poor lighting.
– Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for safety.
– Exposure to animals/insects, electrical hazards, heights, noise, vibration, dust, vapors, fumes,
mist, smoke, toxic metals, and moving mechanical parts.
