James Peters, one week removed from winning the USGTF Southeast Region Championship, became the first person in USGTF history to win two region titles in the same year when he successfully defended his 2014 title at the Central Region Championship, scoring a one-point victory over Nate Deakin in the Stableford competition. Deakin, one point behind going into the last hole, hit his approach to within three feet, with Peters sitting 28 feet away for his own birdie. However, Peters rolled in his long effort to seal the deal, leaving Deakin one point short. The tournament was held at Lick Creek Golf Club in Illinois.
In the Northeast Region Championship played at The Architect’s Club in New Jersey, Chris Carroll took home first-place honors with a score of 73, besting 39 other competitors. Division winners included Ingrid Narken (Women’s) with a score of 77; Rich Perine (Over 50) with a score of 80; Ed Williams (Over 60) with a score of 74; and Jerry Moore (Over 70) with a score of 76.
Tom Palmgren had a hole-in-one on the eighth hole, a 174-yard uphill par three using his 6-iron during the event, as well. John Savage serves as the Northeast Region director, and he can be reached at savogolf@gmail.com.
