We would like your input as to the format of the United States Golf Teachers Cup. From 1996 – 2003, only those in the Open division were eligible to be declared Overall Champion. In 2004, everyone was eligible to win the Overall Championship, but all men regardless of division played from the same set of tees. From 2005 – 2010, everyone was eligible to win the Overall Championship with Open, Senior, Super Senior, Legends, and Ladies divisions all playing different sets of tees. In 2011, the format from 1996 – 2003 was used.
After receiving committee input, the following two formats were determined to be the best going forward with the tournament.
USGTF Tournament Committee
_____ Option 1: Return to the format of 2005 – 2010 where everyone is eligible to win the Overall Championship. Seniors will receive approximately a 10-yard advantage per hole compared to the Open division; Super Seniors and Legends will receive approximately a 10-yard advantage per hole compared to the Senior division. Ladies will play from approximately 80 – 85 percent of the Open division yardage as per USGA guidelines for mixed-gender scratch events. Each division will still have its own honors and prize money.
_____Option 2: Institute the United States Senior Golf Teachers Cup for all participants 50 and over, to be played concurrently with the United States Golf Teachers Cup. All participants in the Senior Cup would play from the same set of tees, but the Super Senior and Legends will still have their own divisions in terms of honors and prize money. Ladies will continue to vie for the Overall Championship in the United States Golf Teachers Cup.
