You may have noticed in this e-newsletter that we have news from all five USGTF regions. That’s great, because involved members mean a stronger organization, especially at the local level.
I live in the Southeast Region, and we are fortunate to have Mike Stevens give his time as our region director. This will be the ninth consecutive year he has organized our region championship, and we have played at fine venues such as World Woods and GlenLakes Country Club in the past. But more so than that, I enjoy seeing friends such as Woody Hoover, Frank Mitchell, Alice Brown, Rich Lively, Michael Taylor, Carlos de Barros, Jim Peters, and others to whom I apologize for leaving out.
Last year in the Northeast Region, John Savage put on a tournament that had 40 participants. That’s fantastic for a region event! I trust that the participants had a great time like we do in the southeast.
If you haven’t yet played in a regional event, why not this year? The costs are modest and they’re pretty low-key and informal affairs. They’re wonderful for relaxing, playing a good course, and meeting some great people. The good news is you’re not restricted to only your own region’s event – you can play in any one of them. Just ask Jim Peters, who lives in the Central Region, and not only won that event but also the Southeast title, too. (Although if he wins our regional title again, we might just have to change that rule – just kidding…I think!)
We hope to have a new Northeast Region director soon, but for everyone else, please get in contact with your region director and let’s tee it up this year!
